For over ten years, Jeff has been an advocate for patient safety improvement efforts, primarily concerned with improving healthcare team performance. Currently, he is an advisor to the American College of Surgeon’s Division of Education’s interdisciplinary committee on team-based practice. Additionally, he is actively engaged in patient safety education efforts with organizations such as the Health Research and Education Trust and the Oregon Simulation Alliance, and is a co-founder and organizer of the Safety Across High Consequence Industries (SAHI) Conference, an initiative of St. Louis University and the National Center for Aviation Safety Research. He has authored and co-authored articles and book chapters on patient safety topics. Previously, Jeff was a co-recipient of a John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety Award for System Innovation from the Joint Commission and the National Quality Forum. He earned his M.Ed. and B.S. degrees from the University of Maine at Orono. His interests are flying, sailing, illustration, camping and hiking.
